Some women tend to panic when they miss their periods. Even if it is just a few days off some women, especially those who are sexually active, get a little too crazy when they miss a period. And that probably says a lot about how ready a woman is for motherhood. The idea of bringing another person into the world can be a bit terrifying for many women but there are also many women out there who are starting to embrace the life of a single mother. Traditional family values would suggest that a complete family should consist of one father and one mother to be able to form a set of parents. But recent years have challenged that model and there are now more cases of single parenthood than have been socially acceptable in the past decade.

While a person may start to panic as this is what it usually points to a possible pregnancy, it could be a couple of other things to consider as well. So if one is stressed, one should learn to relax and take a breather and also think that stressing about a missed period could just make it hold off for another day longer. Heightened stress levels can result in a lot of other adverse effects on the body as well so it is very important not to be too stressed and to rest every so often. Good sleep and slow breathing can definitely help a person get rid of stress and ward off other cases of missed periods.

Complications with the ovaries or the uterus could also cause a person to miss a period. This is a very important thing to have checked with one's physician as this could mean that a person could have complications with getting pregnant or giving birth. Frequent missed periods could also mean that one needs to have a pap smear just to be sure that everything is alright. Missed periods could be a sign of cystic ovaries and if this is not treated it could mean possible ovarian cancer and this is not something that one should take lightly at all.
